SHOOT REGENERATION FROM PETALS AS A BASIS FOR GENETIC VARIATION AND TRANSFORMATION

Authors:   A. Vainstein, M. Fisher, M. Ziv
Keywords:   Dianthus caryophyllus, tissue culture, adventitious shoots, β-glucuronidase
Abstract:
An efficient procedure for adventitious shoot regeneration from carnation petals was developed as a prelude to the establishment of a transformation system in carnation. Up to seven shoots per petal, in over 90% of the petals used, were obtained. A protocol for the elimination of beta-glucuronidase inhibiting compound(s) from carnation leaf extracts is also described.
