Abstract:
Evidence is presented which indicates that maturation or phase change is a composite of processes rather than a single process that influences several phenotypic characteristics.
Such a concept of maturation provides a rational basis for studying regulation of individual maturation-related characteristics with the goal of manipulating them individually.
By using experimental systems involving excised tissues from juvenile and mature plants of Hedera helix, we have studied regulation of differential anthocyanin accumulation and differential rooting potential as individual characteristics.
