Abstract:
A model convenient for use in computer simulation of plant growth has been developed to describe nitrogen uptake and partitioning.
The model describes nitrogen uptake by Michaelis-Menton kinetics, taking into account the inhibitory effect of nitrates inside the root.
This modification was based on the description of competitive inhibition of enzymatic reactions.
For a model of plant growth and development, with daily (or longer) time steps, steady-state partitioning of nitrogen in the plant may be considered as a first approximation.
Taking into account the material conservation law, the functions for total nitrogen and nitrate partitioning among plant organs are calculated.
These functions contain parameters which can be estimated from independent experiments.
