INFLUENCE OF SHOOT-TYPE ON TIME OF APRICOT FLOWERING

Abstract:
Apricot budwood forcing experiments were performed to investigate the relative chilling requirements of three New Zealand apricot cultivars. The chilling requirement of ‘Sundrop’ flowerbuds on spur-type shoots was observed to be less than half that of vigorous extension shoots from the same tree. This result indicates the need to include the effects of shoot type and vigour as part of a phenological model of apricot flowering.
