Abstract:
The current state of development of the Vinemild forecasting system for downy mildew of grape initiated in 1987 is presented.
The underlying model has been described previously and is thus presented only briefly.
A new aspect now taken into account by an additional sub-model is the effect of fongicides on the development of the disease.
Four years of field testing have lead us to the concept of a vineyard oriented calibration of the model, assuming that the model parameter are different for each vineyard.
The yearly a posteriori calculation of the primary inoculum as well as the calibration of the model require input from the user, for which a sampling method has been established.
The ability of the program to run different scenarios of future weather patterns leads to an increased decision support for the user.
The interface of the program has been completely rewritten, including now an extended mouse support and multiple graphic windows.
These improvements should permit the introduction of the model as a management tool for advisory services.
