ISHS Acta Horticulturae 313: III International Symposium on Computer Modelling in Fruit Research and Orchard Management

MONITOR: A COMPUTER-BASED TOOL FOR MONITORING APPLE BLACK SPOT INFECTION PERIODS

Authors:   M.R. Laurenson, D.W. Manktelow
Abstract:
Criteria for ascospore and conidial infections of Venturia inaequalis, the apple black spot pathogen, have been incorporated in personal computer based software. The software receives meterological data from orchard data loggers in near real time, and displays both the input data and the infection risk interpretation in a single graphical screen. Users can view historical data and change selected parameters in the risk calculation. Three orchards have been monitored for two seasons and grower feedback is positive. The software is a component of the Orchard 2000 decision support framework. Possible additions to, and adaptations of the software are discussed.
