ORCHARD 2000 FAXLINK : A DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR ORCHARDISTS |

| Abstract:
ORCHARD 2000 FAXLink is a computer operated decision support system that has been developed for orchardists and horticultural consultants. It uses recent advances in telephone response technology to allow orchardists to access a range of stored information, decision support tools and databases by telephone and facsimile. The information currently available includes daily updates of five day weather forecasts and forecast synoptic maps, crop management guidelines prepared by industry experts, a bibliographic search system and a fruit growth monitoring system. A group of 40 people within the local horticultural industry has been used to test the system. The initial response has been good with 444 calls received in the first two months of operation. Meteorological forecasts accounted for 44% of requested information. | |
