TRANSPIRATION OF GLASSHOUSE ROSES

Abstract:
The major driving force for transpiration of glasshouse crops is the amount of light intercepted by the canopy. In the glasshouse cultivation of roses, from time to time a large part of the leaf area is removed when the flowering branches are harvested. The effects of this cyclic removal of leaf area on transpiration have not been investigated yet. A research project was started in 1992 to gain information on the effects of the environmental conditions and the cultivation system on the transpiration, with the aim to improve the irrigation schedule and environmental control.
