Abstract:
In three regions in Serbia favorable for walnut growing, the Fruška Gora Mountain, Timocka Krajina and Macva, a program of selection was conducted on generatively multiplied walnut populations. Out of 2521 walnut trees examinated, 406 trees or 16.1 percent were found to developed lateral fruit buds. Twelve selections, which had more than 50 percent of flowers from lateral buds, are interesting for commercial production, hybridization and rootstock production from seed.

The selections Kasni rodni, Novosadski rodni, Milko, Timok 34, Timok 95 and Timok 1 are readily suitable for commercial production, the selection Super rodni for hybridization and the selection Beocin for rootstock production from seed.
