Abstract:
In Colombia and other countries of the Andean region there is a wide expansion in the growing of lulo Solanum guitoense, Lamark.
The ample spread of the species in natural and cultivated ecosystems and other factors have allowed the apearance of populations with abundant genetic richness and/or potential both in its vegetative and reproductive features.
Production faces factors such as incidence of insect blights, illnesses, malnutrition, use of anadequate cultivars that give low yields or difficulties to sustain the crop through its reproductive cycle, and sometimes even the total loss of the crop.
It is proposed to use existing germoplasm of the different intraspecific and interspecific stocks to obtain plants that respond to different growing systems.
