Author:   H. Schwarz
Abstract:
In the boyacense plateau 2 400 m above sea level at 5°25' N a nursery was set up by the german GTZ in 1986 for the propagation of deciduous fruit trees. From a collection of over 150 varieties in 15 species, today are multiplied 15 extensively, and 20 only for tests. At the same time 30 plots were set up in altitudes between 2 000 and 3 100 m to evaluate the behavior of these varieties in the different microclimates.

The best apple varieties to date are: 'Anna', 'Elstar', 'Fuji', 'Gala' and 'Dorsett Golden', for observation 'Toukou', 'Seka Ichi', 'Mutsu', 'Jonagold', 'Golden Delicious', all on MM 106 (75%) and MM 111. Peaches are grafted onto 'Common White Peach' (Durazno Blanco Común) and on 'Rubira Infel 2605'. The best peach varieties today are: 'Coral', 'Marly', 'Cardinal', 'Premier', 'Princessa' and 'Zapallo'. Pears are grafted onto seedling and quince A; adapted varieties are 'Leconte', 'Smith', 'Selecta' and 'Kieffer'.
