ISHS Acta Horticulturae 309: XV International Symposium on Fruit Tree Diseases

INVESTIGATIONS ON PEAR FRUIT ATROPHY

Authors:   N. Minoiu, M. Ionica
Abstract:
Atrophy of pear is not wide-spread in Romania; it is known to occur in our country only on two cultivars of pear-trees grafted on pear seedlings.

The symptoms of the disease become quite obvious with the fruitful pear-trees and are characterized by small fruit (about 5 times smaller in size as compared to the healthy ones). The infected trees are also characterized by a small growth, red coloured leaves and their premature fall in autumn.

The ethyology of the disease according to the symptoms provoked on woody indicators and herbaceous plants as well as according to the results of the analyses made on the phloem tissue indicates infections with mycoplasma like organisms (MLO).
