Abstract:
Several species of family Labiatae were grown in Scotland, dry matter yield, volatile oil quality/quantity and their antimicrobial activities were closely monitored.
Yield and quantity of volatile oil from savory, marjoram, oregano and thyme were very satisfactory.
In addition, representative samples of individual plants from the National Oregano and Marjoram Collection were analysed by GLC. The antibacterial properties of the oils were investigated against a collection of 10 bacteria.
