Abstract:
The utilization of medicinal and aromatic plants has been increased even by the developing countries and it is obvious too that almost 90 % of mankind takes medicines basically of natural origin.
Creation of new agro-systems can be motivated by both biological and ecological considerations.
To establish or optimalize a medicinal plant production system a suitable level of ecophysiological knowledge is needed: a.) the population (or chemotype) must have a stable biosynthetic pathway for the secondary compound, b.) the agrotechnics should be harmonized with possibilities of on-going agricultural practices and the ecological and physiological optimum of secondary compounds, c.) the optimalization should be extended to the postharvest processes.
