STUDIES OF ELEMENT PATTERNS IN THE FAMILY LAMIACEAE

Authors:   I. Máthé jr, M. Dinka, V.V. Miklóssy, I. Máthé, A. Borhidi, A. Máthé
Abstract:
The macro- and microelements accumulated by the plant kingdom are characteristic of species. As the accumulation of elements reflects the genetic and physiological features of taxa, their occurrence may indicate taxonomic differences.

Concerning the accumulation patterns of elements, the Lamiaceae (Labiatae) family has not gained much attention (HEGNAUER, 1966). The aim of our studies was to obtain information on the contents of 27 elements in species of various Lamiaceae genera, but also to examine, if taxonomic conclusions could be drawn on the basis of element patterns. It will be attempted to establish supra-generic interrelationships, mainly in view of CANTINO SANDER's (1986) subfamilial considerations.
