Abstract:
In the course of our investigation the widespread Compositae family, five medicinal plants from Rwanda were studied.
Those plants were particularly screened for and showed moderate antimicrobial and significant cytotoxic activities.
Most of the active principles were found to be highly exygenated sesquiterpene lactones.
In one case, a polyhydroxylated sapogenin was responsible for the cytotoxic activity.
Some flavonoids were also isolated along with the sesquiterpene lactone.
