ISHS Acta Horticulturae 305: First European Workshop on Thermogenesis and Photomorphogenesis in the Cultivation of Ornamentals

INTERACTION BETWEEN GROWTH REGULATORS AND PHOTOPERIOD IN THE CONTROL OF THE REPRODUCTIVE DEVELOPMENT OF RHODONDENDRON SIMSH

Author:   M. Bodson
Keywords:   paclobutrazol, GA3, GA4+7, flower initiation, inflorescence bud dormancy
Abstract:
Foliar applications of paclobutrazol promote inflorescence bud initiation, while GA treatments release inflorescence bud dormancy and promote the further development to anthesis. GA3 is more efficient than GA4+7.

The promotional effect of paclobutrazol is larger for plants grown in 16-h LD than in shorter photoperiods while the promotional effect of GA3 is larger for plants grown in 12-h days or when plants grown in 16-h days have been previously treated with paclobutrazol. The possible role of GAs in the control of the reproductive development of Rh. simsii is discussed.
