Abstract:
In this paper we present results of experiments based on the light-equivalence principle in order to determine the nature of the photoreceptor involved in the mediation of the action of UV radiation on hypocotyl growth.
The UV induced inhibition of hypocotyl growth, in red and white cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.), in wild type and in an au mutant of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mil.), is controlled by UV absorbing receptors and phytochrome.
In red cabbage the UV induced inhibition of growth is phytochrome dependent and does not require the action of a specific UV photoreceptor.
