ISHS Acta Horticulturae 305: First European Workshop on Thermogenesis and Photomorphogenesis in the Cultivation of Ornamentals

INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT HEATING STRATEGIES ON MORPHOGENESIS AND FLOWERING OF ORNAMENTALS

Authors:   L. Hendriks, D. Ludolph, A. Menne
Keywords:   stem elongation, leaf growth, flower initiation, flower development, interaction of temperature and light, thermomorphogenesis, energy consumption
Abstract:
This paper gives an overview of some new or less well-known static and dynamic heating strategies that are used today in ornamental production. Main emphasis is laid on the effects of these strategies on day and night temperatures or - depending on the model that is used - on temperature fluctuation and the daily mean temperature. Furthermore, the effects on morphogenesis and flowering are analyzed. Energy saving aspects and technical restrictions, as well as optimization possibilities, are also discussed.
