SENSING STRUCTURE IN CROP AND SOIL

Author:   W. Day
Abstract:
Progress with two sensing systems to measure structural properties of horticultural systems is reported. The crop scanner uses a laser system to provide information on canopy density. It is particularly relevant to studies of particulate dispersal, but could also be applied to crop growth studies. The seedbed structure sensor uses image analysis procedures to determine aggregate size statistics. It is relevant to practical measurement of seedbed quality, and to characterisation of within-field variation.
