TWO DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS OF IRRADIANCE DISTRIBUTION AT CANOPY FOLIAGE IN RELATION TO THE DIFFUSIVITY OF FILMS OF PLASTIC HOUSES

Author:   K. Kurata
Keywords:   Canopy photosynthesis, covering material, diffusing power, diffusive film, protected cultivation
Abstract:
Use of diffusive films for plastic house covering is expected to lead to more uniform foliage irradiance distribution. Two-dimensional analyses on the uniformity of foliage irradiance distribution were conducted in relation to the diffusivity of the covering material, as well as to the canopy structure and the solar altitude. The conditions under which diffusive films are effective for the uniformity were elucidated. The analyses also made clear that the uniformity improvement is, in general, associated with a decrease of radiation incident on the leaves.
