Abstract:
The co-composting option thought as the way to close the cycle of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) undergone biological treatments is examined here.
Experimental results are reported in the context of an integrated anaerobic/aerobic strategy for the treatment and disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW). Research was carried out with the OFMSW sorted by an industrial plant.
This biomass was utilised both as feed for an anaerobic digester and as bulking agent mixed with the digested OFMSW (1/1 TS basis) during the co-composting trials.
