Abstract:
Tomato for industry is an important crop en Argentina.
The production is around 350000 t.
The main biological problems are nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita, Kofoid e Chitwood), in the main production region Mendoza, and tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) in Rio Negro.
The breeding program has been working on the above problems.
At present, open pollinated varieties resistant to these diseases are spread.
The combination of these resistances with Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, Alternaria alternata fsp. lycopersici, and high solids content are the main objectives for the future.
