THE TOMATO INDUSTRY IN CHILE |

| Abstract:
It is estimated that close to 12 000 hectares are presently planted with industrial tomato in Chile. The production area is concentrated in the central part of the country, between 30° and 34° latitude south. The climate in this area is characterized by moderate temperatures with a difference of several degrees between day and night time temperatures, low relative humidity and high luminosity, being optimal for plant growth, fruit developement and ripening. Therefore, the raw material produced is of high quality, with a good red color and low mould count, making possible to obtain final products of high quality standards. | |
