Abstract:
Several methods of applying plastic were evaluated for control of tomato decline at the Imperial Valley Research and Extension Center.
All the solarization treatments were superior to the nonsolarized plots.
Preformed beds covered with full tarp (beds and furrows) gave slightly better results than beds formed after the solarization treatment.
Bed solarization plus Enzone® was not superior to solarization alone.
Shaping rough beds after solarization was as good as preshaping and then solarizing.
The Enzone® alone applied at 300 or 600 ppm was not superior to no treatment.
Yield data indicate that solarization could be used as a nonchemical control for tomato decline.
