ISHS Acta Horticulturae 300: In Vitro Culture, XXIII IHC

OCCURRENCE OF VARIEGATION IN THE SHOOT OF VARIEGATED CYMBIDIUM MULTIPLIED BY SHOOT TIP CULTURE

Author:   A. Hasegawa
Abstract:
It was confirmed in shoot tip culture multiplication of terrestrial cymbidium that a variegated pattern does not always appear in the clones. The appearance of variegated pattern depend on the sort of variegation and variation can occur during the rhizome multiplication process.

Multiplication by shoot tip culture is not possible for cultivars with shima-fu type (stripe pattern), and is possible for a cultivar with fukurin type, tough there is a risk of the appearance of variation, and is fairly possible for tora-fu and jabi-fu types.
