Abstract:
Embryo culture has been used by breeders to achieve germination of early-ripening peach varieties.
Very early-ripening genotypes have small embryos that can hardly germinate in vitro and show partial or disordered growth.
Seed culture technique (Ramming and Bassi, 1986) allows development of the embryo without germination.
Some soluble sugars, sugar alcohols and nitrogenous compounds are involved in the nutrition of the developing embryos during fruit growth (Bassi and Ryugo, 1990). The present experiment was undertaken to improve embryo enlargement, resulting in good growth and transplanting survival of seedlings.
Different carbohydrates and a nitrogenous sources were provided to the embryos during seed culture.
