Abstract:
This research project was initiated to study the feasibility of including plant growth regulators (PGR) in the forcing solution in order to enhance rooting of cuttings taken from the new softwood growth emerging from forced dormant stems of privet and arrowwood.
Gibberellic acid (GA3) and indolebutyric acid (IBA) in the forcing solution strongly influenced rooting responses of the softwood cuttings.
IBA increased root number per cutting and promoted root elongation, while GA3 inhibited rooting.
This technique has potential applications for practical use in commercial nursery propagation and in research studies.
