Abstract:
Shoot formation is an important step in plant propagation in vitro.
Cytokinins and auxins have a crucial impact on explant establishment and growth.
Ethylene also plays a role in the tissue culture process.
There are many reports from the literature where ethylene was found to promote shoot formation in several plants while in others it inhibited shoot formation in vitro.
Also, by using ethylene inhibitors in the medium there was an indirect effect on shoot production from explants of various species.
Furthermore, manipulation of the vessel atmosphere,. mainly by choosing the appropriate type of closure, was reported to influence explant shoot proliferation which was useful in the practical side of micropropagation.
