Abstract:
Buds from mature trees of Corylus avellana L. were cultured on a modified MS medium with 5 μM N6-benzyladenine (BAP). The frequency of initial shoot elongation varied greatly among genotypes, from 0 to 70% of the buds.
Shoot multiplication differed with genotype, BAP concentration and position on the medium (horizontal or vertical). The highest rates occurred with propagules placed flat on medium containing 5 μM BAP. Root formation was induced on all shoots by a dip in 1 mM -indolebutyric acid for 15 sec, followed by a culture period of four weeks on auxin-free medium.
