GIBBERELLINS AND ABSCISIC ACID IN REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS OF Rosa hybrida

Authors:   J. Bianco, G. Garello, M.Th. Le Page-Degivry
Abstract:
ABA and GAs levels were evaluated in reproductive organs of Rosa hybrida by means of immunoassays. At harvest ABA was mainly localised in the gynaecium. During vase life, ABA level in the gynaecium remained almost steady whereas in the androecium, a spectacular accumulation occurred, especially after anthesis. An unknown immunoreactive compound also accumulated in the senescing androecium. These observations are discussed in the framework of the current idea of an indirect pathway for ABA biosynthesis. Concerning GAs, at harvest, the androecium is richer than the gynaecium; moreover in the androecium GAs are essentially less polar than those present in the gynaecium, suggesting a synthesis of GAs in young male sexual organs. The hypothesis of a transport of both hormones from the place of their synthesis to the other parts of the flower is discussed.
