ISHS Acta Horticulturae 298: Hortifroid, V International Symposium on Postharvest Physiology of Ornamental Plants; Importance of Cold in Ornamental Horticulture

COLD CHAIN FOR ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE

Author:   A. GAC
Abstract:
Because of its specific requirements, ornamental horticulture avails itself of different kinds of refrigerating equipment, from the cold room for storing plants or for pre-chilling flowers, to air-transport containers or greenhouse heat pumps. The author wished in particular to emphasize the diversity of the uses of refrigeration, as well as certain important technical details like atmosphere renewal, and relative humidity of the air, in storage spaces. He also wished to call attention to certain specific points in the marketing of cut flowers. This area was chosen as it is that area of horticultural production which is most subject to rapid deterioration ; its worldwide economic importance, moreover, has increased considerably in recent years.
