Abstract:
Various organic mulches like straw, leaves, husks and crop residues can be successfully used in cultivated fields of banana.
The experiment was conducted on three banana cultivars (Jahaji, Chenichampa and Manohar) with three mulches (paddy husk, water hyacinth and paddy straw) and a control.
All the mulches increased the level of total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium concentration of leaves.
The highest total leaf nitrogen was recorded in the cultivar Jahaji under paddy straw mulch (3.12%) and the lowest was in 'Manohar' under control (2.70%). The highest leaf phosphorus was recorded in the cultivar Jahaji under paddy husk mulch (0.36%) and lowest in 'Manohar' under water hyacinth mulch (0.22%). The highest potrassium concentration of leaves was observed under paddy straw mulch (3.04%) and the lowest was under control (3.00%).
