RECONSTRUCTION OF HORTICULTURE BETWEEN THE RIVERS DANUBE AND TISZA

Author:   F. Frigyesy
Abstract:
Revolutionary political and economic changes are going on in Hungary. The areas of present large-scale farms are likely to be succeeded partly or totally by small farms that would greatly promote the reconstruction of horticultural production in the region between the rivers Danube and Tisza.

Small farmers will utilize local traditions. "Two-storey" cultivation has reappeared: that means vineyards with large numbers of vines of low or relatively high-trunked training systems covered in the winter or berry fruit bushes interplanted with standard fruit trees with small crowns. Local irrigation possibilities are used for irrigating vegetables.

Advisory and safeguarding services are needed to arrange ownership, to assure credits for recommencement and to guarantee machine and material supplies for small farmers.
