Abstract:
Waterrelease measurements were made for five perlite/Sphagnum peat mixtures: 1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2 and 0:1 v/v.
Logaritmic, potential, exponential, second order and square root polynomyal models were tested to describe volumetric wetness and moisture tension relationship between 0 and 100 cm water column.
The square root polynomy regression was superior to the other evaluated functions.
Container capacity was experimentally determined for all the mixes potted in three container sizes (6.5, 12 and 17 cm diameter). Water content in the container profile was also calculated sectioning the substrate into 2.0 cm cores from the bottom to the top.
The square root polynomial model provided accurate predictions of air/water distribution at container capacity for most of the studied container-substrate combinations.
