Abstract:
Previous research on this subject has pointed out that substrate mixtures can be considered to follow a linear pattern in applying a model for obtaining a desired mixture according to the characteristics of the components.
Binary volume-based mixtures of peat, perlite and forest litter were characterized for physical properties (particle size distribution, bulk and particle density, total pore space and water-release curves). The experimental results were compared with results calculated from the characteristics of the original materials.
For most of the mixtures studied, experimental results approached to the theoretical results.
The use of theoretical data in prediction of characteristics of mixes is discussed.
