ISHS Acta Horticulturae 293: IX International Symposium on Apricot Culture

BEHAVIOUR OF 150 APRICOT VARIETIES AFTER AN APRICOT CHLOROTIC LEAF ROLL INOCULATION

Authors:   J.M. Audergon, C. Castelain, G. Morvan, M.G. Chastelliere
Abstract:
The aims of the present study were to evaluate the variability of behaviour within apricot species after inoculation with ACLR, and to look for possible factors of resistance in order to introduce them into new varieties.

A new selection test has been promoted to appreciate as quickly as possible the ACLR sensitivity of tested varieties.

One hundred and fifty (150) apricot varieties were inoculated by graft transmission (chip budding) with apricot chlorotic leaf roll.

Different levels of susceptibility or resistance exist in apricot. It is expressed by a great variability in symptomatology between varieties and ranges from very sensitive to tolerant ones.

  • The first ones much more susceptible than those usually cultivated in France, may have some interest as indicators.
  • The second ones since they never expressed any symptom after inoculation, are still investigated in order to characterize their level of resistance to apricot chlorotic leaf roll disease.
