PLUM POX VIRUS RESISTANCE OF APRICOT

Authors:   F. Dosba, F. Denise, J.M. Audergon, P. Maison, G. Massonie
Abstract:
The aims of this study were to know the variability of the behaviour to Sharka inside the apricot species, to study the determinism of the resistance of "Stark Earli Orange" and to compare the different genetic ways to introduce resistance into varieties.

Different methods of inoculation and detection were compared to test apricot varieties against Plum pox virus and to know the kind of resistance involved.

The quickest results were obtained by aphid transmission with the PPV-M Strain.

Different levels of resistance exist in apricot. Immunity has not been found. A certain level of resistance defined as tolerance seems usable in selection.

The study of the progeny "Screara" x "Stark Earli Orange" gives first ideas about the determinism of the resistance which appears as oligogenic.

The development of the apricot micropropagation allows to test the tolerant hybrids on their own roots.
