ISHS Acta Horticulturae 293: IX International Symposium on Apricot Culture

PESTS OF APRICOT

Author:   G. Viggiani
Abstract:
The main pests (insects, mites and nematodes) which attack apricots are reviewed. Among the several insects, the peach twig borer (Anarsia lineatella Zell.) and the Oriental fruit moth (Cydia molesta Busck) are widely the most injurious. Severe local damage can be caused by the flat-headed borer (Capnodis tenebrionis L.), the winter moth (Operophthera brumata L.), the mealy plum aphid (Hyalopterus pruni Geof.) and other species.

In recent years a better bio-ecological knowledge of some of the previously listed insects, particularly the twig and the fruit borers, has been accumulated. On this basis their control could be markedly improved by using bio-technical (pheromone traps, mating disruption), agronomic and chemical methods, according to integrated control criteria.
