Abstract:
400 plum hybrids were created in 1960 in order to select a new apricot rootstock suitable for heavy soil, usually referenced to as greengage soils.
For 28 years INRA, CTIFL and nursery men contributed their varying competences to the hybrid experimentation.
At the end of the evaluation process one hybrid appears to be much more interesting than the standard usually used by growers.
The main characteristics of this selection named "Torinel" are the level of compatibility in relation to demanding Apricot varieties, the behaviour in fruit orchards and the satisfactory growth and general suitability in the nursery.
