BLOSSOMING, FRUCTIFICATION AND COMBINATION OF APRICOT VARIETIES

Authors:   Z. Szabó, J. Nyéki
Abstract:
There is 1–7 days difference between the main blooming time of apricot varieties observed. Varieties are groupped into 3 blossoming groups /early, medium, late/. Varieties are put into 5 groups based on the rate of self-fertility.
  1. fully self-sterile /self-fertility is 0 %/,
  2. self-sterile /0,1 – 1 %/,
  3. partially self-fertile /1,1 – 10%/,
  4. self-fertile /10,1 – 20 %/,
  5. self-fertile in very high rate /above 20 %/.

The following varieties observed are put into the self-sterile /0 – 1 %/ group: Early Devinity, Perfection, Stella, Sun Glo, Viceroy foreign varieties. The regional varieties of the self-sterile, Hungarian-selected "giant" group /Ceglédi óriás, Ligeti óriás, Nagykorösi óriás, Szegedi mammut/ can be fertilized well by Bergeron, Borsiféle kései rózsa, Gönci magyar kajszi, Magyar Kajszi C235. This is the first case to state inter-sterility among the apricot varieties. The result of cross-pollination among the "giant" fruited regional varieties /Ceglédi óriás, Ligeti óriás, Nagykorösi óriás, Szegedi mammut/ was inter-incompatibility.
