Abstract:
The governmental program of apricot breeding in Romania was initiated in 1949 under the auspices of the Agricultural Research Institute.
In accordance with the main aims and achievements, 3 chief stages could be distinguished.
At present, in Romania there are over 20 new apricot varieties with the fruit ripening season lasting 60 days, 18–20 June, 20–25 August, meeting the demands both for processing and fresh consumption.
