Abstract:
In order to single out the most suitable areas for apricot industry, several experimental fields were located in the following districts: Emilia Romagna, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily.
The cultivars Cafona, Pellecchiella, San Castrese, already evaluated as suitable for processing, were grafted on peach seedling GF 305 and apricot seedling GF 1236.
The planting was performed with rootstocks on virus free cultivars.
The trees were planted in February 1982 spaced 6 x 6 meters according to a randomized plot design (12 replication of single tree per cultivar and per rootstock).
After six years, the cumulated productions in the different locations indicate that climate has a marked effect on yield; between the two rootstocks there are no remarkable differences in yield, and ripening time.
As far as the size of the fruit is concerned, GF 305 gives higher values.
The productivity efficiency index resulted variable and was probably influenced by the soil and climatic conditions.
