Abstract:
Various vegetative methods of propagating Dimocarpus longan subsp. malesianus var. malesianus were carried out.
Patch budding on seedling stock having a diameter of about 0.40 cm has been found to be a suitable method of propagating the taxon.
A significantly longer period of storage of seeds (85% germination after 30 days' storage) was obtained under air-conditioning when the seeds were stored intact inside the fruits which had been treated with warm 0.05% Benomyl.
Whereas untreated fruits turned brown within 24 hours after harvest, fruits treated with unheated Benomyl at 0.05% and stored in air-tight containers or sealed polyethylene bags remained fresh for up to 5 days under ambient temperatures.
Under refrigeration, an even longer period of storage was possible using the same treatments.
