Abstract:
Two species of Diaspidid scales; Phenacaspis dilatata (Green) and Aulacaspis tubercularis Newstead, are economic pests of mangoes in Queensland.
The extent and nature of damage to young and fruiting trees is discussed.
Scale blemish on the fruit results in quality and monetary losses and disqualification from fresh fruit export markets.
A management strategy involving cultural, biological and insecticidal control is presented.
A list of biocontrol agents recorded attacking common mango scales in north Queensland is included with comments on their importance.
A proposal to introduce the coccinelid predator, Chilocorus nigritus (F), to enhance biological control is elucidated.
