Abstract:
The efficient regeneration of mango plants by somatic embryogenesis from suspension cultures has permitted the application of somatic cell genetic approaches to mango cultivar improvement.
Several mango cultivars have been regenerated by somatic embryogenesis from nucellar cultures.
Efforts are underway to demonstrate the feasibility of genetic transformation in mango using a disarmed strain of Aqrobacterium tumefaciens as a vector, to select for greater resistance to anthracnose in vitro and to identify somaclonal variants that are produced in vitro.
