Abstract:
Pecan [Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch] is distributed along the Mississippi River and its tributaries from northern Illinois and southeastern Iowa to the Gulf Coast of the U.S.A. Isolated populations occur as far east as southwestern Ohio, northern Kentucky and central Alabama.
The species is abundant on rivers and streams of central and eastern Oklahoma and in Texas west to the Edwards Plateau (Fig. 1). Pecan occurs in regenerating stands as far south as Zaachila, Oaxaca, Mexico.
