ISHS Acta Horticulturae 29: Symposium on Nutrition and Fertilization of Vegetables

THE INFLUENCE OF NITROGEN FERTILIZATION ON ONION QUALITY AND STORAGE

Authors:   M. Sypien, J. Smoter, A. Kepkowa, O. Nowosielski
Abstract:
We would like to present here primary results of field experiments with nitrogen fertilization of onion grown from the seeds; the experiments started in 1970 are being continued. In these experiments we compare the effects of using different doses of nitrogen, given in one dose before sowing of the onion seeds, or divided: one part before seed sowing, and the second as a top dressing, in the middle of June (Table 1). All the plots received high potassium and phosphorus

fertilization, which increased the available potassium level up to 250 mg K/l and available phosphorus level up to 80 mg P/l.

In these experiments we examined the influence of nitrogen fertilization not only on the total yield of onions, but
