ISHS Acta Horticulturae 29: Symposium on Nutrition and Fertilization of Vegetables

THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT NITROGEN FORMS AND INCREASING NITROGEN DOSES ON THE CONTENT OF TOTAL NITROGEN AND OF NITRATE IN CAULIFLOWER PLANTS

Authors:   F. Pimpini, F. Venter, A. Wünsch
Abstract:
In literature the effect of a nitrogen fertilization on the yield of vegetable crops is quite known but the knowledge of the influence of nitrogen on the protein content and other constituents, as for instance nitrate, is still incomplete. A.O.Mengel [12], Mappes and Will [11], Nehring [14], BAQ [4], Michael [13], Nicolaisen [15] reported of the increasing protein content in relation to the nitrogen dose given to cereals or rather vegetable crops. It is further known that there exists a close relationship between nitrogen fertilization and the nitrate content in the plants, Nowosielski [16], Witte [21], Schuphan et al. [20], Schuphan and Schlottmann [19], BAQ [2, 4, 5].

In the experiment described by this paper we tried to find out the effect of increasing nitrogen doses in different nitrogen forms on the content of total nitrogen and nitrate in cauliflower plants.
