ISHS Acta Horticulturae 29: Symposium on Nutrition and Fertilization of Vegetables

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ORGANIC FERTILIZATION AT PROPER MINERAL FERTILIZATION AND IRRIGATION

Authors:   D. Fritz, Chr. Wonneberger
Abstract:
Soil fertility is necessary. Many factors help to maintain and increase it. Organic fertilization is one of these factors. The introductory lecture shall give a comprehensive survey about the actual state of knowledge and a disposition of the subject-matter of the colloquim. Because of the very short preparation time for this paper and the dependancy of organic fertilization on ecological conditions, were forced to restrict ourselves to European conditions. Gaps can be filled by the following lectures and discussion. This lecture cannot deal with the specificities of further interrelations between organic fertilization and crop rotation, tillage, farm structure, state of mechanization and intensity degree of commercial gardening. The term "humus" which is used in this lecture means "organic matter" or "organic dry matter".
